You can practise without an account. If you create one, we store your account details and your test results so your progress follows you across devices.
Practising without an account
You may take any test without signing in. In that case your results are not recorded: nothing is saved to our servers, and you will not see them again after you leave the results page. While a test is in progress, your answers, timers and Speaking recordings are kept in your browser (local storage and IndexedDB) purely so you can resume after a refresh.
Account data
If you create an account we store your email address, your display name, and — if you sign in with Google or Facebook — the profile picture and name that provider gives us. If you sign up with a password, we store only a cryptographic hash of it, never the password itself.
Test results
When you are signed in, the results of tests you complete are stored against your account: your scores and bands, which sections you took, and how many questions of each type you answered. We also store the work itself — the answers you selected or typed, and the text of your Writing tasks — so that you can reopen a finished test and see each question next to your answer and the correct one. Without this, a score out of 40 would tell you how many you got wrong but never which. This is what lets your results follow you to another device or survive a cleared browser. Deleting your account deletes all of it.
Signing in with Google or Facebook
If you choose to sign in with Google or Facebook, that provider tells us your email address, name and profile picture. We do not receive your password, and we do not post anything to those accounts.
Server and hosting data
The hosting provider may process standard technical request data such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, and timestamps for security and operation.
AI scoring of Writing and Speaking
AI feedback is optional and only runs when you ask for it. Your Writing responses are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to be graded. Speaking is graded from the recording itself, because pronunciation and fluency cannot be judged from a transcript. Before any recording leaves your browser we ask for your explicit agreement, and we ask only once. Your audio is then sent to Microsoft Azure Speech, which transcribes it and measures pronunciation, fluency and intonation. The transcript and those measurements — not the audio — are sent to Anthropic to be turned into band scores. We do not store your audio on our servers. It is analysed and discarded. Your transcript, your bands and the written feedback are saved to your account so you can review them later. The recordings themselves stay in your browser. On the free plan they are deleted as soon as scoring finishes; on a paid plan they are kept so you can play them back, and you can remove them at any time with the button below. Neither provider uses your work to train their models. Advertising and analytics run only where enabled and where you have consented.
Deleting your data
You can permanently delete your account at any time from your account page. Deleting your account also deletes every test result stored with it, and cannot be undone. Data held only in your browser can be cleared using the button below.
